Concept of Eye Donation
Eyes have the potential to live even after the death of an individual. For people suffering from corneal blindness, donated eyes are the only hope to vision. Only the cornea and the sclera, white section of the eye, can be transplanted. Eye donation happens only after an individual has passed away.
Who can donate?
Eye donation is open to anyone between the age group of 2 months to 80 years old. Anyone suffering from a transferable disease or Metastatic Cancer cannot donate eyes.
Consent is important
Anyone who wishes to donate their eyes should inform relatives or friends about their decision. After the death of an individual, family members too can consent for the donation of the deceased.
Donation Procedure
The procedure for eye donation with Sunday Friends is easy and convenient. After the death of an individual, the relatives or friends of the deceased must consent for eye donation over the telephone and send a copy of the Death Certificate. A registered medical practitioner will undertake the complete procedure at the hospital where the deceased is. Eye donation procedure must be carried out within 6 hours of the death.
